Sirius Satellite Radio - Overview: The SIR-PVK1 Pro Vehicle Kit provides a hardwired installation of the FM antenna connection and power/ground connection for your Sirius Portable or Plug and Play tuners when used with its compatible car kit in your vehicle. A metal mounting bracket with a swivel base is also supplied to provide a professional looking installation.

Note: A compatible activated SIRIUS tuner with a car docking kit is needed to use the SIR-PVK1 kit.

FM Direct Audio Adapter: The FM adapter box supplied with the SIR-PVK1 kit provides a direct connection of your vehicle's antenna lead to your SIRIUS tuner providing a better signal than the built-in wireless FM modulator that is in your SIRIUS tuner already. The FM adapter features the following connections:

To Radio: Male Motorola antenna plug on a 21" cable, plugs into the vehicle's AM/FM radio antenna input
To FM Antenna: Female Motorola jack on the side of the switch box, accepts the vehicle's antenna cable
SIRIUS Antenna: Male 2.5mm mini-jack on a 16.5' cable, plugs into the FM Out modulated output on the car kit
Note: Some vehicles (such as select GM vehicles, Volkswagens, Nissans, etc.) may require antenna adapters in order to connect the FM adapter Box to your vehicle's OEM antenna connectors. Please consult the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to see if OEM antenna adapters are needed.

Dual Voltage Power Adapter: The supplied Dual Voltage Power Adapter allows you to hardwire a power-source for your SIRIUS tuner so you don't have to use your vehicle's cigarette lighter port, leaving it free to charge your cell phone or other devices. The Dual Voltage Power Adapter is capable of supplying power to either a 12 V or 5 V SIRIUS portable or plug and play tuner. The adapter features the following connections.

2-Pin Connector: Connection used for the supplied 5 volt cable that will be attached to your SIRIUS tuner
3-Pin Connector: Connection used for the supplied 12 volt cable that will be attached to your SIRIUS tuner
Power/Ground Lead: Two 16" wire leads used to supply power and ground that will be attached to your vehicle
Installation: The FM adaptor box and the Dual Voltage Power Adapter is typically mounted behind the dash, near the radio. In this case it's likely that no antenna extension cable or additional wires will be needed. Each box has 2 mounting holes to secure the devices to the selected vehicle's surface. The adapters are installed in the following manner.

FM Direct Adapter: Your FM antenna will be unplugged from your radio and plugged into the FM antenna port on the FM Direct Adapter. Then the adapter's 21'' motorola antenna cable is plugged into your radio's FM antenna port. Finally, the adapter's 16.5" minijack cable will be plugged into the audio output connection of your SIRIUS tuner or SIRIUS tuner's car dock to complete the signal transfer. Dual Voltage Power Adapter: Depending on your SIRIUS tuner, you will plug in either the 12 V 3-pin cable or the 5 V 2-pin cable into the adapter and into your tuner's dock DC input. The ground wire will then be grounded to the vehicle's chassis using the supplied ring terminal that is already installed on the ground wire. Finally, the power wire will need to be hardwired to your vehicle's accessory circuit. A 2-amp fuse and fuse holder is supplied to go in between the adapter's power wire and your vehicle's accessory wire.

Notes: The Pro Vehicle Install Kit does not supply any mounting or grounding screws.
Audio Cable: The Pro Vehicle Install Kit also comes supplied with a 5.5' stereo minijack to stereo RCA cable. This cable can be used instead of the FM Direct Adapter if your vehicle's radio has an auxiliary audio input. The minijack connector plugs into the audio output on your SIRIUS tuner or SIRIUS car dock and the stereo RCA cables are plugged into the back of your radio. Some aftermarket stereo's may use a 3.5mm auxiliary input on the front or rear of the radio and you will need an additional adapter to adapt the dual Stereo RCA connection back to a 3.5mm connection.

Mounting: The SIR-PVK1 comes supplied with a metal mounting bracket with a detachable swivel base; the bracket can swivel horizontally and vertically. The bracket can be attached to surfaces in the vehicle such as the dash or console. When the bracket is used with the swivel base the base uses four screws holes to attach the bracket to a flat surface. If the swivel base is removed the mounting bracket can be inserted behind the dash's trim panel of the car next to the radio by sliding the "fingers" of the mounting bracket behind the trim panel and attaching it with optional self-tapping screws (this is very similar to a "Pro-Fit" installation). You may to bend or cut the bracket to make it work correctly behind the vehicle's trim panel.
